Rainy Rainy Ride..
Jun 29th
I love riding in rain. Especially if its a night ride. People says rain and bikes wont match. But for me, nothing is more romantic than a wet night ride through my favourite city. I feel like the roads get a life when its wet. They are colorful and animated when its wet. The neon reflections and light from the brake lights gives it a sexy look. Tonight was one of those lucky nights . I roamed around Trivandrum from south to north to west to east in rain..I got new tires for my bike a couple of days back. So it was a “riskfree” ride
. Put some smooth music (i use Mobile+Headphone ) or speak to your loved ones (Not recommended!
) and keep going. After sometime, your body will let you know that its time to go home or to get a shelter by putting on the vibrate mode.Fools call it shivering. Never care , keep riding. You will get used to it soon.
If you are like me , a few things to care before such a romantic ride :
* Get couple of plastic covers to keep your mobile/wallet etc.
* A Rain Jacket is a no-no as it kills the thrill.
* Ride slow and keep distance with vehicles to avoid harsh braking. Seriously , it can Kill you!
* Gear/Engine braking is preferred than normal braking to avoid skidding.
* Keep your helmet visor open to have a clear view and to enjoy the rain drops on your face
PS: If anything happens to you /your bike or any one else by doing the above mentioned act , I am not responsible for the losses
Malayalam Blog
Jun 29th
Finally i started a Malayalam Blog. This one will stay there for long unlike the previous one. I am comfortable with wordpress and was looking for a way to write malayalam in Wordpress. They says Wordpress supports Unicode. But i tried several times and couldnt save the unicode into the database. Malayalam will be shown in the editor and upto pressing “publish” button , everything is fine. But , viewing the post in the blog shows “????????” instead of Unicode Malayalam font. That was purely a Database error. So checked with it and found the culprit lines in the code.
For those who are looking for a solution, shoot up any FTP Client like Filezilla and browse to the root folder of the blog. That is where index.php is present.
* Then open the “wp-config.php” for editing
* Look for the following two lines,
define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');
define(’DB_COLLATE’, â€);
*Comment the above two lines by adding “//” before each line . (Without “”)
ie. like,
//define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');
//define(’DB_COLLATE’, â€);
Save the file in the server and try again!. It must work. Atleast it worked perfectly for me.
By the way , my Malayalam Blog, E-Thal ( à´ˆ-താളàµâ€ ) is here – ethal.fluids.in or ml.fluids.in
Mangalore Days..
Jun 20th
Right now i am in Mangalore, the port city of South India. I am starting to love this city for its infrastructure and the left-alone-areas inside the city. You can find mini-forests inside the core city , and the place where i stay now is behind such a mini-forest. The pollution and rush as you see in other indian cities are not seen here. A calm but lively city.May be there is some restricitons for new constructions. With the booming Land trade in India, it was a surprise for me to find such vast unused spaces right in the heart of the city. Even if it was a park or something like LalBagh in Bangalore, it makes sense. But atleast it helps in making the air fresh and pollution free.
The commercial centers are not as big as bangalore or even cochin, and the malls are under occupied. I have been to the Bharath Mall here, near where i stays. Its small and i spoted many non-occupied floor spaces in it. May be, the trend of urban shopping is catching up in Mangalore. And i was amused to find the hottest southindian movie as of now, Dasavatharam running in a half occupied Theater. With a large Tamil speaking population here, it was quite unpleasing. I wonder how they are running in profit. By the way i got a new pair of Reebok Canvas from there. I was looking for a right model for the past one month. Now i got it!
My new Pair of canvas!
There is nothing much here as tourist spots. Somehow my friend here whom i am staying with says there is a fort and beach which will be a nice spot to spend a day. May be we will be going there today. Or like yesterday a full day inside the room sleeping!!
Will be back with more mangalore infos…:) Byee!!
FireFox 3 Download Day 2008
Jun 17th
Haven’t heard about it yet? The release of Firefox 3 will be made in a few minutes (Tue 10:30 PM Indian Standard Time). They are making this event a huge one by attempting for a world record in most downloaded file in a day. I am high with sky high expectations about Firefox 3. I am already using RC3 of Firefox 3 and I am pretty much satisfied with features and stability(In Linux). Already 1,736,232 people pledged for downloading the FireFox 3 (When checked now @ 9.50 PM Jun 17 )
So what you are waiting for? Go and take a pledge!!
PS: The site is down at the moment due to the world record usage! =)) How they expected to set up a record without enough infrastructure?

Blog Theft!
Jun 13th
I just happened to see this issue among a few bloggers and a “reputed” website. This “reputed” company which many of you know and many others may be “proud” members of it is www.kerals.com and the bloggers include many malayalam bloggers. I am not familiar with malayalam bloggers or their blogs, but i have a respect to them for publishing contents in my mother tongue, which i failed to do. I read them once in a while. And during such a rare visit to one of the Malayalam Blog, i found this surprising issue. You can find the details here,
http://myinjimanga.blogspot.com/2008/06/stealing-threat-cyber-stalking-abuse.html
I request every one to read it and show some kind of support. Its not an issue with two individuals. I dont even know who she is or i havent been to her site before. But this particular incident is so touching and thats why i am posting it here. Also, I am going to post this post to my non-personal blog (Which has a fair readership) for giving much popularity as this matter deserves much more attention. Think about some one abusing your own sister or mother in a public road. And what will be your reaction? This issue is much higher than that. Internet is a public place where once said ‘can’ stay there for long. Posting with her blogger id on porn sites , starting websites with hr blogger id ( http://injipennu.com/ – which is as of now suspended) , and creating email spoofs are enough to qualify as a serious crime.
Please read more about this issue :

Too Much of Orkut?
Jun 11th
A few of my friends asked me whether i have been appointed as an Orkut blogger recently. I wrote too much about orkut this week.The reasons may be , Orkut made quick and un expected changes or i had nothing else to write . To be frank , the life for me is now plain and boring. No classes, no project works..
I’l be in my room until 6pm watching documentries or following zillion forums. Then a 3~4 hour with my friends at Museum. Thats my life for a week now.And when ever i am ready to write something, some one will call up me for a meeting. Just like now!
My friend called and i am going! Not in a mood to save it as draft and complete later..
Orkut : Private communities
Jun 9th
Private Communities? Orkut is becoming complex day by day. Now , the latest addon is private communities. What exactly is a private community – Communities that are only open to people who share your email domain.
How does it work? First, enter the email address for the domain you share with your classmates or colleagues into the contacts tab of your profile. When creating a new community, simply choose the “validated – email validation required” option, then select the domain from the drop down box. Anyone who wants to join the community will first be required to validate his or her email address from that domain before being allowed to join.
For example, i have this site – neo999.com which is a biking blog. I want to have a private community only for the co-authors in my blog. So i can add an option like this -
The Domain neo999.com is automatically present in the list because i have given that domain in my profile as my webpage.

Official google blog post
Orkut’s Community Recommendations
Jun 9th
A new addition to Orkut – Community Recommendations. Just a week ago they introduced a much useful Photo Tagging feature, which is still left unused by many users. Community Recommendations help us to join communities that ‘may’ be useful to us. Orkut compares the communities where we have already joined with other similar and large communities in Orkut. If a match is found, orkut will recommend it to us. Also, if a community have several friends of you as members, then it will be added to the recommended list assuming that it will be a community that you would like to join. A similar feature was introduced in FaceBook which recommends you more friends. It seems like google is trying hard to give a facelift to Orkut.

Community recommendations are shown in Home page positioned just above the community list.Or it can be reached through this link ->http://www.orkut.co.in/Communities.aspx?tab=5
An option to turn this feature off is also present. You can cancel the recommendations by clicking the small
symbol near the listings.

Inside the community recommendation page ( http://www.orkut.co.in/Communities.aspx?tab=5 ) we can see more recommendations. Clicking on “Why was I recommended this?” link will show the reason for that particular recommendation.
