I got this tip from a commenter in my previous post about Remote Logoff in Gmail. Sharing it here for those who are still using Internet Explorer 6 or any browsers on which this feature wont work. Gmail checks whether the browser is a compatible one or not and then only displays the link to this feature. But however, if you know the file url , it can be easily used.

Follow these steps:
1) change your browser’s user agent string (you can use something like “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1)”), close the browser and reopen it in order the change to take effect. From now your browser will be identified as IE7
2) Log in to Gmail with your account, et voilà, “Last account activity” is available on the bottom of the page. You click it and the popup opens. Save the url of this page, which will work on all browsers, then undo the changes you made to the user agent string of IE6 and restart the browser.
When you are logged onto Gmail and you need the “Last account activity” page, simply use the url you previously saved.

They are making this event a huge one by attempting for a world record in most downloaded file in a day. I am high with sky high expectations about Firefox 3. I am already using RC3 of Firefox 3 and I am pretty much satisfied with features and stability(In Linux). Already 1,736,232 people  pledged for downloading the FireFox 3 (When checked now @ 9.50 PM Jun 17 )

Private Communities? Orkut is becoming complex day by day. Now , the latest addon is private communities. What exactly is a private community – Communities that are only open to people who share your email domain.

How does it work? First, enter the email address for the domain you share with your classmates or colleagues into the contacts tab of your profile. When creating a new community, simply choose the “validated – email validation required” option, then select the domain from the drop down box. Anyone who wants to join the community will first be required to validate his or her email address from that domain before being allowed to join.

For example, i have this site – neo999.com which is a biking blog. I want to have a private community only for the co-authors in my blog. So i can add an option like this -

The Domain neo999.com is automatically present in the list because i have given that domain in my profile as my webpage.

A new addition to Orkut – Community Recommendations. Just a week ago they introduced a much useful Photo Tagging feature, which is still left unused by many users. Community Recommendations help us to join communities that ‘may’ be useful to us. Orkut compares the communities where we have already joined with other similar and large communities in Orkut. If a match is found, orkut will recommend it to us. Also, if a community have several friends of you as members, then it will be added to the recommended list assuming that it will be a community that you would like to join. A similar feature was introduced in FaceBook which recommends you more friends. It seems like google is trying hard to give a facelift to Orkut.

Community recommendations are shown in Home page positioned just above the community list.Or it can be reached through this link  ->http://www.orkut.co.in/Communities.aspx?tab=5

An option to turn this feature off is also present. You can cancel the recommendations by clicking the small symbol near the listings.

Inside the community recommendation page ( http://www.orkut.co.in/Communities.aspx?tab=5 ) we can see more recommendations. Clicking on “Why was I recommended this?” link will show the reason for that particular recommendation.

Here by i declare that, i am starting a personal blog again. I started bloging long back and what used to be a my-life-strory-blog turned out to be a biking blog ( www.blog.neo999.com) . Now, since i dont want to mix up bike with my life , i am starting this ‘brand new’ blog. Seriously, you wont find anything interesting to read here. You will find all rubbish thoughts, useless reviews about random gadgets and tech or movies or songs , and may be if you are ‘lucky’ a peep into my life .  So , here i goes…..

Can Any one justify what i am getting now? I was supposed to get 64kbps upload speed on my ul900 plan (256kbps ). And thats what i was getting 3 months ago. On october i disconnected my service as i was out of the city till december. This week i applied again and got connection immediatly on my old modem and line. Now

Can any one tell me why it is like this? First i noticed it when i tried to upload my fotos through picassa. I was getting around 30kBps. Then i tried uploading via ftp and rapidshare . I was getting 25+ kBps. In torrents its almost 30kBps. Is it something unique for my connection alone? Or was there any change between these three months?

Atlast ..Exams are near. As i consider this as my last attempt and hoping that i’l clear my papers before leaving this college, i took a decision that i will make use of my brain now for exams.(Atleast i can try for it! ) . So i myself put a ban on using internet or even my PC for a month. Meanwhile, i ‘may’ post some entries if i am really bored with books. So bye for a month!

I have upgraded this blog to latest WordPress 2.3.1 . I wanted the Tagging support and so I couldn’t wait when wordpress launched their latest stable version. And I tried tagging!!!But in that process I lost all my categories. . So I am in a boring process of manually adding categories to all my posts. Consider editing 200 posts one by one. And to add to that , I am on a gprs connection now. So I think it will take a week to restore categories. Till then , you have Tags . Or use the search function in Top Right corner.

   As you all may have noticed this particular blog used to have several biking related posts in the past. Later I thought it would be better if I separate my biking and tech blog posts and decided to have two blogs . So I started www.IndianBikeNews.com. Surely its hard for me to maintain two blogs. But considering the ease of readers of two entirely different sectors , I still think its better to have two separate blogs . And since the IndianBikeNews.com hasn’t got much attention till now , I will continue posting Biking articles in BOTH BLOGS . I hope the techies and bikies will continue their support to me.
